Today we tried something a little different, a little interesting, maybe a little uncomfortable, maybe a little exciting. Painted reflections are a way of exploring an area in a little more depth. For our reflections we explored the themes from our current book, "Wonder." First of all we looked at what we mean by the themes within a story.
Once we understood what we meant by "themes." We looked at possible themes from simple stories like "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and "The Three Little Pigs." Then we looked at our class novel and began picking out the main themes. There were a lot of ideas and this was by no means an exhaustive list.
After this we explored the idea of metaphor and, in particular, visual metaphor.

For a 15 minute painting session, and considering these are your first attempts, I thought you did a fantastic job. When we did our first gallery walk it was interesting trying to figure out what themes the different paintings represented. However, I enjoyed the second gallery walk more because you had added your descriptions and they show some great examples of deeper thinking.
