- Excavation strategies (digging horizontally one layer at a time to see connections between artifacts and make inferences).
- How our knowledge of the past is incomplete and how some of these gaps happen.
- How careless work can destroy clues and confuse our understanding of history.
- How to measure, map, draw and understand a top plan.
- How to make inferences based on evidence.
In our unit of inquiry we are looking at the way ancient civilisations have impacted on the modern world. To help us reflect on how historians use evidence to create inferences, we took part in our own archaeological dig. This was to help us understand

I used to think that you just take the ancient stuff out and don't say where what time and what place now I think you need the place to remember which place the ancient stuff was found so maybe there is more artifact.

I used to think that when you find and ancient thing you don't need to know the evidence, you can just be told or you try to look at the piece of ancient sculpture or etc for clues of what it was like back then.

I use to think archeologists just dug, and dug, without really planning a lot about where they dug. Of course I knew that they planned about it, but I didn't know that they planned THAT much.

I used to think that it's easy to find artifacts and clues is easy but now I think that it's hard to find artifacts and piece together the clues

i used to think that the archaeologist could just dig until they found something or a type of species but now I know that the take years to dig up all of the special artifacts and that you need to be very carefull.

I used to think that giving evidence was when you explained the reason the thing you are try to prove right. I used to think that it was easy to dig up ancient things. I thought that there was only a few layers of ground. After I did this I realized how complex it is. You have to be careful cautious and neat. I takes up lots of time and effort. We had a tiny amount to do as our assignment. Some people do this for life work. They have huge amounts of land that they have to scavenge for ancient things or clues to the past. There are many layers of ground. The one that you can not break through is called bed rock. Most architecture workers dig in a certain pattern. We have a small knowledge of the past but from our ancient ancestors story's of their lives have passed down for centuries and the evidence that we have dug up. If we are careless we could discover the clues that we have been looking for. Through the countless measurements we made we completed our task. It takes lots of time to do.

I used to think that archeologists just used to randomly and dig up and find artifacts just after they dig through the red soil. I used to think archeologists had to study which artifacts were lost in case they were to run into one of them.
